Emergency lighting that keeps the way out lit
When the mains fails, people need to be able to see their way out. Emergency lighting does that job — but only if it's designed well, fitted properly and tested on a routine. We look after all of it.

What we do
Lit escape routes, when it matters most
Emergency lighting is the set of fittings that come on automatically when the power goes off, so that escape routes, stairs and exits stay visible and people can get out safely in the dark. We design and install it for commercial premises, community buildings and places of worship, and we take over testing on systems that are already in place. If you've inherited a building and aren't sure whether the emergency lighting works, that's exactly the sort of thing we'll check and put right.
BS 5266, without the jargon
BS 5266 is the British Standard for emergency lighting. In practice it sets out where fittings need to go — over exits, along escape routes, at stairs and changes of level, and in larger open areas — and how long they have to keep working once the mains drops out, which for most buildings is three hours. You don't need to know the standard chapter and verse; that's our job. We'll make sure the coverage is right for how your building is laid out and used.
The two tests, and why both matter
There's a quick monthly test — often called a flick-test — where the fittings are switched to battery briefly to confirm they come on and the little charge lights are behaving. Then there's the annual full-duration test, where the fittings are run for their full rated time, usually three hours, to prove the batteries actually last the distance. It's the annual test that catches tired batteries before they let you down. We can carry out both, or handle the annual and show you how to keep the monthly checks ticking over in between.
Fixing what's failed
Testing is only useful if failures get put right. When a fitting won't hold its charge, a battery's gone or a lamp's out, we replace it and note it in the logbook, then issue a certificate covering the work. That log and certificate are what your fire officer or insurer will want to see — proof the system was tested and that anything wrong was dealt with.

Who it's for
Buildings that need it
Almost any building the public or staff use needs emergency lighting — shops, offices, restaurants, workshops, halls and community spaces, and churches and places of worship, where a power cut in a large, unlit room is a real hazard. If you're a landlord, facilities manager or trustee responsible for keeping the building safe, we'll take the emergency lighting off your list: installed where it's needed, tested on time and certified so you can prove it.
Book your emergency lighting test
Due your annual test, or fitting out a new space? Tell us about the building and we'll arrange a visit, sort any failures and leave your certificate in order.
