An automatic opening vent is part of a building's smoke-control arrangement. When correctly designed and operating, it can open windows, roof vents or smoke shafts in response to a fire condition, helping protect escape routes from smoke.
The exact sequence varies between buildings. Some systems operate a vent on the affected floor, some open a head-of-stair vent, and others form part of a more complex smoke-control strategy. Testing must therefore follow the intended cause and effect rather than simply pressing a button and seeing one window move.
Some smoke-control systems require specialist manufacturer support, airflow testing or mechanical expertise beyond a routine functional visit. Where that applies, we will state it clearly.

Can you test the AOV through the fire alarm?
Where the systems interface and the agreed scope allows, yes. Testing the complete cause and effect is more useful than operating each panel in isolation.
Do you repair AOV windows and actuators?

Can you take over an AOV system with no records?
